The Oxford comma comes before the word “and” in the last item of a list. Though technically optional, it is never wrong to use it, and it removes ambiguity. Therefore, it should always be used.

Examples

Incorrect: We ate eggs, toast and orange juice.

Correct: We ate eggs, toast, and orange juice.

Note how “toast and orange juice” sounds like one (kinda gross) item in the Incorrect example.

• Limit your use of exclamation points!
